What Fits in One Container?
Each wooden container measures 5ft × 7ft × 8.6ft — around 250 cubic feet. That’s comfortably the contents of a one-bedroom flat: a bed, sofa, a few appliances, a wardrobe and a stack of boxes.
Bigger home? We just use more containers, sealed and stacked in our alarmed indoor warehouse, so you only ever pay for the space you actually fill. See our prices or storage solutions.

Estimating Your Storage, Room by Room
The easiest way to picture how much storage you need is to think room by room. As a rule of thumb, one 250 cubic-foot container comfortably holds the contents of a single furnished room or a one-bedroom flat — so the more rooms you’re clearing, the more containers you’ll use. Below is a practical guide to help you estimate before we confirm the exact figure for free.
Bedrooms and living spaces
A typical double bedroom — bed and mattress, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables and a few boxes of clothes — fills roughly half to two-thirds of a container. A living room with a three-seater sofa, an armchair, a TV unit, a coffee table and bookshelves usually takes up a similar amount, so a one-bedroom flat as a whole tends to settle neatly into a single container. A two-bedroom home generally needs two containers, and a three- or four-bedroom house two to three, depending on how much furniture and how many boxes are involved.
Kitchens, appliances and white goods
Kitchens are mostly boxes — crockery, pans, small appliances and cupboard contents — which pack down efficiently, but large white goods take more room. A fridge-freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher each occupy a meaningful slice of a container, so if you’re storing several appliances it’s worth mentioning them when you ask for a quote. We wrap and protect appliances properly and stand them upright so nothing is damaged in storage.
Gardens, garages and bulky items
Garages and sheds are where volume hides. Lawnmowers, bikes, tools, garden furniture, BBQs and DIY equipment add up quickly, and bulky one-off items — a piano, a wardrobe that won’t dismantle, a large mirror or a set of golf clubs — are worth flagging early so we bring the right protection. Antiques, artwork and high-value pieces are handled with specialist care by our LAPADA-accredited team.
Businesses, archives and stock
For businesses, storage usually comes down to pallets, archive boxes and stock. A standard archive box is small, so a single container holds a great many of them; bulkier stock, display units or office furniture will use more. Whether you’re freeing up office space, holding seasonal stock or archiving paperwork, we’ll help you work out the most cost-effective number of containers for your business storage.
